The ferry is being constructed at Cammell Laird in Birkenhead. The shipyard having made a commitment to keep most of the build within the Liverpool City Region by sourcing and using as many local businesses as possible.
LK Valves & Controls were honoured to have been chosen to supply a complete ship set of valves and strainers to the project, including:
- Quick Closing Valves and a Hydraulic Control Station Cabinet
- Mud Boxes
- Aluminium Alloy Tank Vent Check Valves
- Butterfly Valves
- Globe & Angle Valves
- Storm Valves
- Sounding Cocks
- Ball Valves
- Gate Valves
In early November 2025 in a carefully managed 24-hour operation, the vessel was moved to the river’s edge to allow the incoming tide to slowly lift her clear and float her for the very first time. The shipyard will now carry out further work ahead of full sea trials early next year. The ferry named ‘Royal Daffodil’ is due to enter service in summer 2026.
